      Clinical Psychologist

Dr Andrew Nicholls is a Clinical Psychologist with 15 years clinical experience (including 10 years in private practice). He is a client-centred therapist who recognises the client as the true expert in their own life. He works collaboratively with individuals to identify challenges to their psychological wellbeing and systematically address problems using individually-tailored, empirically validated treatments.

While completing his Doctorate of Psychology (Clinical) at the prestigious ANU Research School of Psychology, Andrew developed a scientifically-supported emotion-regulation skills training (ERST) program for the treatment of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that utilises mindfulness and acceptance-based techniques to augment and enhance existing cognitive-behavioural treatments.  Andrew has used this cutting edge approach to OCD treatment to successfully treat individuals diagnosed with OCD, including many with severe presentations.

Andrew possesses clinical expertise in multiple domains including, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), men’s mental health, transgenderism and gender dysphoria, emotion regulation, and sports psychology.  Andrew is also a highly skilled generalist psychologist experienced in the provision of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), and mindfulness- and acceptance-based approaches to psychological treatment. Andrew finds that a carefully selected combination of these treatments is often required to best meet clients’ needs and help them realise their full potential.
