Trish Purnell-Webb MPsych(Clin) MAPS FCCP CGT
Clinical Psychologist

Trish is a Clinical Psychologist with more than 20 years experience working with people from all walks of lives in the community.  Trish was the first Certified Gottman Marital Therapist in Australia and along with John Flanagan, are still the only Australians to hold the title of Certified Gottman Marital Therapist, Master Trainers and Consultants.  This means that Trish has completed all levels of training and mentoring available through the Gottman Institute in Seattle, USA and can now provide training to other therapists in this modality as well as provide couples with world class couples therapy and workshop experiences. She is one of only 26 therapists in the world to hold this standing. Trish is also a certified presenter for The Art and Science of Love Couples Workshop.

Along with Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Trish has completed training in Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples and a range of evidenced based psychotherapeutic approaches for treating individual mental health concerns including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Trauma
  • Cogapnitive Behavioural Mindfulness based Therapy
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (for treatment of PTSD)
  • Existential Psychotherapy

Trish is available by appointment only from 7am to 6pm Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays.  Appointments are generally 60 minutes in duration, however Trish also offers Marathon Therapy.  Marathon therapy is an intensive approach to couples therapy which involves a couple attending therapy for 2 consecutive days running from 8.30am to 5pm.  The intensive nature of the approach results in major transformational change that occurs rapidly. If you are located in an approved Telehealth location, appointments are available via the internet using a secure web conferencing platform that meets the privacy and security requirements for medical use.  This means you can access Trish's services no matter where you are located. John Flanagan Master of Gestalt Therapy AMHSW CGT

Since completing his Bachelor of Social Work in 1988 and later a Masters in Gestalt Therapy, John has had an extensive history in direct service delivery with couples, families and young people.

John was the first Social Worker in Australia to become a Gottman Therapist and along with Trish Purnell-Webb, are still the only Australians to hold the title of Certified Gottman Marital Therapist, Master Trainers and Consultants.  This means that John has completed all levels of training and mentoring available through the Gottman Institute in Seattle, USA and can now provide training to other therapists in this modality as well as provide couples with world class couples therapy and workshop experiences. He is one of only 26 therapists in the world to hold this standing. Imogen Furner BPsych(Hons)

Imogen has been working as a registered psychologist on the Gold Coast for the past 10 years.  She initially began her career in the government sector which allowed her to enhance her assessment skills and engage with clients across a wide range of issues. In 2007 Imogen began working in private practice and has strongly focussed on tailoring her therapy to the individual needs of her clients. She is highly competent in the delivery of cognitive behavioural therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. Her main  areas of interest include:

Julie McLachlan BPsychSc (Hons) Assoc MAPS

Julie is a Registered Psychologist who has been providing psychological based services to children, adolescents and adults on the Gold Coast over the past 9 years. Julie has worked in community organisations, Griffith University and Queensland health and is currently working in private practice with adults. Julie has experience with the treatment and management of depression, anxiety disorders, stress, anger, life transitions and parenting interventions. She has an interest in childhood experiences and how they can continue to shape experiences during adulthood. Julie uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy while drawing on attachment and developmental theories and mindfulness principles to tailor treatments to suit her client’s needs. She supports her clients with kindness and curiosity as they explore their life experiences, enhance their understanding (of themselves and their relationships) and overcome challenges.

Brhea Ind BA Psych, PGDip Psych, MAPS

Brhea has been a practising Psychologist for over 10 years working in not for profit organisations and has been in private practice for 8 years.

Debbie Case  BA-Psych (Hon) M Psych (For) MAPS FCFP
Forensic Psychologist


Debbie became a registered psychologist 10 years ago following the completion of her Master’s Degree in Forensic Psychology. Since that time Debbie has worked in private practice with a wide range of clients with varied needs. 


Debbie has experience providing assessments for the criminal courts in NSW as well as working in community private practice settings. She has experience in assessment and treatment of children, youth, adults and professionals. Debbie enjoys using therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). 

Debbie works daily with general community members on a wide range of issues such as:

Susan Edwards PhD, MClinPsych, BPsych (Hons), MAPS

Clinical Psychologist

Susan is a Clinical Psychologist with 20 years experience, specialising in the treatment of anxiety in adults. She worked at the internationally renowned Macquarie University Anxiety Research Unit (now the CEH) for over 10 years, running group programmes and working with individuals across the lifespan, as well as supervising psychologists and students. 


Susan has also worked in private practice for 10 years, and uses a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioural skills.  She is passionate about improving the wellbeing and life satisfaction of the people she works with and she has many years of experience working with adults for difficulties including:

Sharon Fennell
Psychotherapist, Counselor and Life Coach

Sharon Fennell is a skilled psychotherapist and counselor and Member of PACFA who has worked in both Australia and the United States over the past 10 years. Her blend of experience across the counselling and wellness spectrums has equipped her to successfully work with issues ranging from mental health issues, to addiction, to high-level performance enhancement as well as general habit change and personal development.


Sharon combines a range of interventions including Process Oriented Psychology, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, CBT and Mindfulness based approaches. 

Sharon has a BA in Behavioural Science and a MA in Process Oriented Psychology, a unique approach to human behaviour which specifically works with emotional blocks and change resistance, disturbances, and the positive role of enriching environments. She offers an inclusive approach, and a safe and supportive space that truly honours the change that is trying to emerge in each individual.

Kylie-Jo Elliott
Executive Assistant and Bringing Baby Home Educator

Behind every great team is an Executive Assistant!  Looking after the administrative side of Burleigh Heads Psychology, Kylie-Jo brings 20 years of business experience to the table.  She holds an Australian Cert IV in Training & Assessment, has gained over 20 years coaching experience, and is also a Gottman Certified Bringing Baby Home Educator. 

Kylie-Jo is passionate about John Gottman's research and the impact that starting a family can have on the relationships of all new parents and parents to be.  Integrating the Sound Relationship House Principles with the reality of becoming a family, Kylie-Jo can deliver the support needed for all couples and their transition to parenthood and beyond.  Her video Bringing Baby Home Program is available at Relationship After Baby

Her role at BHPC is to support and compliment the team with empathy and understanding to all our clients differing situations and needs. Kylie-Jo can answer all your questions, arrrange appointments and assist with general enquiries.
